Remove the background from an image in one click
Removing a background used to mean an hour with the pen tool in a photo editor. Now you drop the image in, and a few seconds later you have the subject on its own: a person, a product, a pet, a car or a logo, with everything behind it gone.
ConvertLime finds the main subject in your photo, traces its edges, and makes everything else transparent. You get a PNG with a see-through background that you can place on any color, photo or slide. There is no account to create, no credit to buy and no watermark stamped on the result.
You can drop many photos at once. They are processed one after another, and you can download them all in a single ZIP when they are done.
Why your photos never leave your device
Most remove bg websites upload your picture to their server, cut it out there, and send the result back. That is slow on a weak connection, and it means a copy of your photo sits on someone else's computer.
ConvertLime works the other way round. The background remover runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your image is read, cut out and saved without ever being sent anywhere. That makes it a good choice for ID photos, family pictures, client work and unreleased product shots.
The first time you use it, your browser downloads the background remover itself, roughly 40 to 80 MB depending on your device. That happens once. After that it starts straight away and even works with no internet connection.
Transparent background or a solid color?
Keep the background transparent when you plan to place the cut-out on something else: a slide, a website, a poster, a sticker or another photo. The download is a PNG, the most widely supported format with a see-through background.
Pick white when you need a clean, plain background, for example for online shop listings, passport-style photos or product catalogs. Pick black for a dramatic look, or any color to match a brand. With a color chosen, the download is a JPG, which is smaller and opens everywhere.
You can switch between these at any time. The cut-out is kept, so changing the color is instant and does not redo the work.
What kind of photos work best?
The tool is best at photos with one clear subject: a portrait, a person standing, a product on a table, a pet, a plant, a car or a logo. The clearer the line between the subject and what is behind it, the cleaner the edges will be.
Good light helps a lot. A subject that stands out from the background, like a dark coat against a light wall, gives a sharper result than a white shirt against a white wall. Busy scenes with many people or objects can work, but the tool may keep or remove more than you expect.
Hair, fur and fine details are the hardest part for any background remover. Results are usually good on clear portraits, but very fine strands may come out slightly soft. Shooting against a plain background makes a big difference.
Make product photos with a white background
Online marketplaces and shops often ask for product photos on a pure white background. Take the photo anywhere with decent light, drop it here, and choose White. You get a clean JPG ready to upload, without a light box or a studio.
For a whole catalog, drop all your product shots at once, choose White, and download the ZIP. Every image gets the same plain background, which makes the listings look consistent.
Profile pictures, stickers and design work
A transparent cut-out of yourself is handy for profile pictures with a colored circle behind you, for thumbnails, and for presentations where you want to appear next to your slides.
Cut-outs also make great stickers for chat apps and printed labels. Save the transparent PNG, then add it as a sticker or send it to a print shop.
Designers use background removal to drop people and products into mock-ups, posters and social posts. Because the PNG keeps soft edges, the cut-out blends naturally onto a new background.
Remove background from iPhone photos (HEIC)
iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default, which many websites cannot read. ConvertLime opens HEIC photos directly, so you can remove the background from an iPhone picture without converting it first.
On your iPhone, open this page in Safari, tap the box, choose Photo Library, pick your pictures, and download the results to Files or Photos. If you use it often, add ConvertLime to your Home Screen so it opens like an app.
Remove a white background from a logo
Logos are often saved as JPG files with a white box around them, which looks wrong on a colored website or slide. Drop the logo here to get it back as a PNG with a transparent background.
For simple logos with flat colors, the result is usually very clean. For a logo with thin lines or small text, check the edges in the before and after view, and use the largest version of the logo you have for the best result.
Is this background remover really free?
Yes. There is no daily limit, no credits, no sign-up and no watermark. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost for each image, so there is nothing to charge you for.
The full-size result is free too. Some tools give you a small preview for free and charge for the high-resolution download; here you download the full image straight away.
Tips for the cleanest cut-out
Use the sharpest, largest version of the photo you have. Blurry or tiny images give blurry edges.
Make sure the whole subject is in the frame. If a hand or a foot is cut off by the edge of the photo, the cut-out will be cut off there too.
If the result keeps a bit of the background, try a photo with more contrast between the subject and what is behind it. Moving away from the wall when taking the photo also helps.
Use the slider under the preview to compare the original and the result before you download.
Remove Background from Image – FAQ
How do I remove the background from an image for free?
Drop the image into the box at the top of this page. In a few seconds you get it back with a transparent background, ready to download as a PNG. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Is this a remove.bg alternative?
Yes. It does the same job – remove bg from a photo in one click – but it runs in your browser instead of on a server, so your images are never uploaded, and the full-resolution download is free.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The background remover runs on your own device. Your photos are read and saved in your browser and never sent to ConvertLime or anyone else.
Why is the first image slower?
The first time, your browser downloads the background remover itself, about 40 to 80 MB. It is saved by your browser, so later images start almost instantly, even offline.
How do I make a background transparent?
Drop your image in and keep the Transparent option selected. The download is a PNG with a see-through background that you can place on any color or picture.
Can I add a white or colored background instead?
Yes. After the background is removed, choose White, Black or any color. The image is then saved as a JPG with that background.

Yes. Drop as many images as you like. They are processed one after another, and you can download them all together as a ZIP.
Which image formats can I use?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC from iPhones, AVIF, JFIF, BMP and GIF. The result is a PNG with a transparent background, or a JPG if you choose a background color.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, on iPhone and Android in a modern browser. Newer phones are faster; on older phones a large photo can take a little longer.
